Is it worth catching up on long-running comic series?
I thought it would be impossible to get back into X-Men because I had missed so many years of stories. Then I found https://www.firstcomicsnews.com/x-men-age-of-revelation/ while reading comic news, and it gave me a much clearer picture of what the new event was about. It didn't make me feel like I had to know every past issue, which was nice. After reading it, I started checking out a few newer comics instead of trying to begin from the very first series, and that approach has been much more enjoyable.

I've started doing the same with other long-running titles. There comes a point where trying to read absolutely everything just takes the fun out of the hobby. Now I look for a good overview, see if the current story sounds interesting, and only then decide whether to continue. It saves time and keeps me from feeling overwhelmed by years of backstory. I also like comparing different opinions after I've read an issue because people often notice details that I completely missed on my first read.
