Le CEDI est une association à but non lucratif enregistrée en France.

​Le CEDI a l'honneur d'avoir Olivier de Frouville comme président. Olivier de Frouville est un ancien membre du Comité des disparitions forcées de l'ONU (2019-2026), qu'il a présidé de 2023 à 2025, et un ancien membre du Groupe de travail sur les disparitions forcées ou involontaires de l'ONU (2008-2014).
